(Anti) Social Lists 5/16/10
Yet another week has rolled by and another week of me thinking of discontinuing this feature. Well, I guess I’ll see.
This week I have freelancing, Facebook, more Facebook, man-made disasters, The National and more.
Enjoy!
- Will Work For Free – Recently I complained on Twitter about the number of people who contact me thinking that I will work for them for free. Tracy sent me a link to her article, which was just what I needed. Here are three types of people who will for you for free.
- How to Use Facebook for Business and Marketing – Another great Facebook article by Tamar Weinberg.
- 15 Tips to Keep Your Freelance Business Going While on Vacation – Taking a vacation when you are freelancer can be difficult. I’ve only taken 2 in the last year and one was a short trip for a family issue. It can be hard to even take a sick day. This article offers some great advice.
- The World’s Most Bizarre Man-Made Disasters – It bothers me that I am linking to The Huffington Post but there are some great photos here. Unbelievable actually.
- 8 Websites You Need to Stop Building Another classic article from The Oatmeal
- Zuckerberg, We Have a Problem – There have been A LOT of articles about Facebook and Mark Zuckerberg recently. This is one of the best that I’ve read.
-
This couple was planning to walk from Florida down through South America. In Louisiana, they found a stray kitten who decided to join them. Backpacker kitty is adorable.

The National is one of my favorite bands. Their new album came out this week and here they are performing one of the songs on Letterman.

No … don’t discontinue this!!! Well, ok – if it’s a huge pain and you don’t want to do it anymore, but I really enjoy these posts.
On a side note, and of no real importance, but I think it’s kinda cool I went to high school with Sufjan Stevens who sings backup on The National video you posted (right side w/ the tambourine) and on the album I believe. I discovered The National this week when my high school friends were talking about the Letterman appearance on facebook and I’m hooked!
Thanks for posting the video!

Hi Ashley – I didn’t even realize that was Sufjan Stevens – I was wondering who it was :-)
And I’m glad you discovered The National – they are awesome :-)

Love the video with the cat in the backpack. Very cute. I favorited it to my YouTube account.
Regarding free work (your first link). We get that all the time. What REALLY bothers me are the folks who are already working with another real estate agent and they call to ask questions and get information that apparently their real estate agent does not have the time to give them. Oh well.

Hi Colleen – It’s annoying. I really try to limit calls like that but some people are impossible to get off of the phone.

More then once I’ve chatted for HOURS on a cettian product/service. When it came time to actually purchase, I gave my affiliate link…only fair, right?
“Oh no, sorry. I’m purchasing from a friend of mine; he/she just doesn’t know anything about it.”
The kicker…..
“Thank you so much! I’ll let you know if I need more help with it. ”
Oh yea, I so look forward to those future emails. Heh!

Hi Dennis – I have two hosts that I recommend and have affiliate links for – half the clients don’t want to use them – like they don’t want me to earn the extra $50 for something they are going to sign up for anyway – weird.

That’s a different scenario though. Unless I’m reading wrong.

It’s different. But is just an example of how goofy people are when it comes to money.
I also tend to answer comments in the morning when I really should wait until later in the day ;-)

Hi Dennis – It’s part of the reason I added two small ads to the site. To help compensate for all of the free help – of course, it doesn’t even come close to making up for it but at least it’s something.

Hi Tracy – I love the article! I’m so glad you sent me the link.

First, you need to raise the threaded comment level :-)
I’d like to see an article on why some use more then one host? I’ve never understood this one.

Hi Dennis – Different hosts for different sites? I thought that the link between sites would be more valuable if the sites weren’t all hosted on the same server …? But I’m not sure about that.

I hope it works, those seems like pretty expensive links, no?
