(Anti) Social-Lists 6/28/09

Another month has coming to a close. It seems that time just keeps going by faster and faster. Summer has finally set in here and I am trying to keep cool without air conditioning. Once it hits the high 90′s with 90% humidity, I may have to turn it on. But for now I’m trying to conserve money and energy.

  • The Benny Hillifier – Ok. This is super silly. You can take any video and have the Benny Hill theme song play over it. It actually synced really well with Tom Cruise’s dance from Risky Business. I am not a fan of the Benny Hill show but the music always makes me laugh.
  • Warning Label Generator – If you need to create your own warning label, this is the site for you.
  • What Type of Creative Geek Are you? – The 56 Geek Types – The 56 Geek Types Illustrated. Which one or ones are you?
  • Xmlrpc Php Security – If you’ve ever wondered what the xmlrpc.php file, in your WordPress installation, does, this article provides an explanation. You might also want to take a look into the upcoming WordPress book, Digging Into WordPress, written by Jeff Starr and Chris Coyier.
  • 40+ Activities for Kids That Do Not Involve TV, Computer, Wii, or Any Other Screen – Are you kids home from summer vacation and whining at you that they are bored? It’s very easy to simply turn on the tv or a video but Vered has come up with a list of fun activities for kids to do during the summer. This is especially helpful of you work from home and have to get something done.
  • Please Give Just $1 For The Charities That You Help To Choose – The Good Human is one of a number of sites participating in donate $1 and vote for the charity that receives the money. Have an extra $1? I think that’s something we can all manage. The amount is low and we all have a voice in deciding which charity will receive our donations.
  • A scary banana
  • Short clip of an interview with Johnny Depp

  • Awesome list, Kim!

I’ve been playing with the Benny Hillifier. :-)

  • Thanks for the mention, Kim — greatly appreciated. The “Activities for Kids” is also a great find, and just in time for Summer Break!! :)

  • “Once it hits the high 90’s with 90% humidity” – sounds bad. It rarely gets that bad here in NorCal.

Thanks for the link love. :)

    • Hi Vered – That hasn’t happened yet this summer – it usually has by now.
I lived in Tucson for a long time so I don’t mind if it gets really hot but I
      can’t handle the humidity.

      • The humidity kills us here. The only way to feel comfortable in the house is to have the air on, otherwise it’s hard to even breathe and my 6 year old has a very hard time (he’s borderline asthmatic).

I shouldn’t like the scary banana, because I hate that sort of humor, but I keep laughing at it.

Tracy´s last blog post – I am so ready for a 3 day weekend

        • Our summer has been unusual. Usually the humidity is so high that it’s hard to breathe. Alex has been complaining about being hot but so far we’ve been ok without the air.

I think the banana is funny too but would prob hate it in person.

  • I always find something very useful on your list. like the “40+ Activities for Kids That Do Not Involve TV, Computer, Wii, or Any Other Screen ” , it arrived just right time when kids started their summer vacation , I totally agree the intention of “Do Not Involve TV, Computer, Wii, or Any Other Screen” , actually kids having too much time in front of the tv which leaves them less time for outdoor activities, less time for spending with other kids or good communication with family members, and I found a serious problem when children see tv without censorship they learn some bad things easily.

I also find “The 56 Geek Types ” very funny although I think it could be much funnier if it comes with a few line of funny explanation of each type.

    • Hi – My daughter always wants to watch something when she has free time. And it can be much too easy to say ok. This list is so helpful in finding other things for her to do. She isn’t interested in the computer or video games though – maybe she doesn’t want to like what her Mom does ;-)
