Beat the Heat With Online Programming

It’s been 97F + here in Philadelphia. Are you like me and too hot to go outside or even move from your computer? Well, then here’s a list of online shows that might help. Maybe you will enjoy them too.

Get Informed

Bill Moyers Journal - This is a weekly program that contains news analysis and interviews on a variety of subjects. Bill Moyers is very concerned about how we are being fed the same rehashed news stories and strives to give a more balanced and democratic view of the issues we are facing. The current episode discusses how mainstream media was wrong during the buildup to war in Iraq and they refuse to admit it, Barack Obama as the presumptive Democratic nominee and Scott McClellan’s book. Last weekend Bill Moyers also spoke at the National Conference for Media Reform.

Democracy Now - provides interviews with people and perspectives rarely heard in mainstream media. This often includes international journalists, grassroots leaders and peace activists. Last Thursday, June 5th the entire program was devoted to Robert Kennedy as it was the 40th anniversary of his assassination. The program was very informative and I learned a lot about Kennedy, who died the same year that I was born.

Strange Fun

Live Bigfoot Feed - is either wacky fun or a cure for insomnia. A group in Alabama believes Bigfoot is in the area and has a camera running 24/7 in hopes of capturing this elusive creature on tape.

This feed is from a location in Kentucky where there has been reported Bigfoot activity. Using the google earth Bigfoot KMZ file, we have confirmed 30 reported sightings within 20 miles of the video feed. This location, has had recent activity including many footprints found and photographed. Also during an earlier feed a board was thrown in the direction of the camera. It was after midnight, no persons were in the yard at the time that the board was thrown. There were two hams set out as bait when the board was tossed.

Zero Punctuation - a weekly video game review series brought to us by Ben “Yahztee” Croshaw. Yahtzee is brutally honest, extremely funny, talks fast and doesn’t take a breath and is a Brit currently living in Australia. Yahtzee has also developed free indie adventure games that can be downloaded from his website. Many were created with AGS (Adventure Game Studio) The current video reviews Oblivion. (warning - videos contain foul language).

Weird

Drawn by Pain - is a 12 part series that combines live action with animation. Emily Waters struggles to deal with her real life as well as her inner demons as she struggles to hold onto her sanity.

Twin Peaks - as I mentioned in my review of Joost, Twin Peak is now available to watch online. Twin Peaks was a groundbreaking series in the early 90’s that centered around the mystery of who killed Laura Palmer and was created by David Lynch. I remember that it was on Thursday nights and I didn’t see it when it was first on because I worked at The New Loft Theater on Thursdays. And this was the early 90’s and I wasn’t that interested in television so I didn’t have a VCR and we certainly didn’t have dvr or tivo.

Sports

MyP2P - the place to watch live soccer games.

Extreme Sports on Joost -an online television channel devoted to extreme sports such as snowboarding, skateboarding, and apparently canal surfing. I like to watch this when I’m tired but still have work to do - it helps me feel more energetic.

I am a big soccer fan so MyP2P gets a lot of use on my computer. Which league do you like the best or are you just a fan of soccer in general?

Hi AC - Thanks for visiting and commenting. I am a fan of Real Madrid in La Liga and Aston Villa in the British Premiere League.

I don’t really care for the MLS but if I had to pick a favorite team I guess it would be New England.
