‘Project Elephant’ takes off

“To maintain better records and ensure better maintenance of elephants, a Schedule I animal that is reducing in number, micro-chips will be inserted in all pachyderms to identify them through a code. Also, their registration, either for keeping in a zoo or use for circus or other purposes, will have to be done from the Central Zoo Authority (CZA) of India, as against the earlier registration with only the wildlife department of the state.” - Chandigarh Newsline
