What is killing elephants in Sri Lanka is the rapid conversion of elephant habitat for development activities. This is the pre cursor to increased human elephant conflict. Unfortunately, the press picks up on individual elephant deaths and incidents without examining the broader raminfications of unplanned development which has lead to elephant (and human) deaths.
