Kachhawa argues against release of elephant
Jaipur-based wild life lawyer Mahendra Singh Kachhawa argued in Judicial Magistrate First Class Court -3 (JMFC) on Tuesday that under the Wildlife Protection Act, sale and purchase of animals under schedule I is illegal. Elephants fall under schedule I according to the Act. ?Thus, even if the documents showing the sale of elephant Poornima are valid, the sale is illegal and the elephant becomes the property of the government,? said Kachhawa in his argument. As such, the government would have to make provisions to house the elephant, he said. - PUNE Newsline
