So very very hot!!!

It has been so hot the last couple of days in Philadelphia. So hot in fact, that the entire Philadelphia School District had emergency school closings and all school closed at noon for two days. Fortunately, Alex’s after school program had in fall under the “snow day” policy and picked up the children at noon and kept them the rest of the day. And there was no extra charge for this …

It’s supposed to be a little better tomorrow so Alex’s birthday should be ok - it’s in two days and she is so excited to be turning 6.

I have some recent pictures from our visit to Wizard World but haven’t uploaded them yet - hopefully I will get that down soon. But I have been so busy and with the heat and getting ready for the birthday party there just hasn’t been any extra time.

How studious

Tonight during during Alex asked, “Can I tell you what Parker did today?” (Parker is her nemesis and sounds like the kid who is the discipline problem in her class). Alex then said, “Parker was talking while the rest of us were doing our work diligently.” I repeated with amazement, “Diligently?” And she replied, “Yes, do you already know that word Mommy?”

Favorite Subjects

I haven’t really written about Kindergarten but Alex seems to love it. The other night she told Marc that her favorite subjects were Art, Math and Science. I wonder what Math and Science is like for 5 year olds. I’m not surprised by her saying art - she loves to draw and is really quite good at it. She is definately Marc’s daughter.

Valentine’s Day

Well, so much time has gone by since I last posted - I haven’t even done the Christmas photos yet. Alex had an interesting Valentine’s Day. We had a snowstorm and all the schools were closed - I think it’s the first time Alex has cried about not having to go to school. Marc stayed home with her and made sure that she had a really fun day - I had to work later so I was with them in the morning. Grandma Alma gave her a couple of books and Grammy gave her a beautiful doll. And then Alex got to have an extended Valentine’s Day because they had their school party and card exchange a day late on the 15th.

We’ve been working on registering Alex for Kindegarten in September and getting her into an afterschool program. So far, things have been going smoother then expected. Alex seems excited about Kindegarten and Marc and I are looking forward to decreased childcare expenses.

What do I say

I told Alex that one of the baby teachers at school said that Alex was beautiful. Alex said, “I’m beautiful? I’m speechless.”

Behind Again

I just can’t seem to keep up with the site anymore - I guess it’s been hard since I started working. I have a bunch of great photos from last Month to post - hopefully I will finish that soon.

Overall, Alex is doing great. She likes preschool and is learning a lot. And she is mostly well behaved. She’s also smart and funny. A little while ago she was sitting on my lap and I started thinking about how small she used to be. It’s amazing how fast time goes by.

Field Trip

Alex went on a field trip with her school yesterday to the movies. It was very exciting for her because she has never been to the movies before. They rode on a bus to the theater, got a snack pack with popcorn, a drink and some candy that they couldn’t have until after school and saw Scooby Doo. Alex thought it was great even though she said the movie was a little scary. Marc does a great impression of Scooby Doo and Alex thought it was hilarious when he pretended to be Scooby Doo this morning.

Not keeping up …

I can’t believe it’s been a month since I posted. I guess we’ve just been so busy, Alex has a bit of a cold and was coughing a lot this morning. I asked her to take some cough medicine so she would feel better. She told me she didn’t need it because she would feel better once she got to school. I wish I felt better once I got to school :-)

Jubilant

Today’s was Alex’s first day of preschool!!! She didn’t, however, go to St. Mary’s, where she got stung by a bee outside. After visiting St. Mary’s a couple of times and talking to some parents who used to send their kids there I decided it wasn’t the right place to send Alex. Instead she is attending The Jubilee School. It is a small private school for K-6th grade that also has a preschool. Alex loves it and I really like the school - it’s in an old house and it’s the cleanest preschool I’ve seen out of all the ones that we’ve visited. It’s very affordable and really close to home - just on the other side of the park. I have two job interviews this week so hopefully I will get hired and actually be able to afford the school. The down side is because the preschool is part of a regular school they have a lot of days off and once I’m working it’s going to be hard to manage - I guess I should start looking for a babysitter.

One thing I really like about the school is the emphasis on music - starting at age 4 all the kids take violin lessons and the violins are provided by the school.

I will try to take pictures of the school this week (I haven’t been taking any pictures lately).
