How studious

Tonight during during Alex asked, “Can I tell you what Parker did today?” (Parker is her nemesis and sounds like the kid who is the discipline problem in her class). Alex then said, “Parker was talking while the rest of us were doing our work diligently.” I repeated with amazement, “Diligently?” And she replied, “Yes, do you already know that word Mommy?”

Bad Language

Last night Alexandra was talking about kids who got in trouble at school that day. She said that Phillip said “the Z word”. Marc and I are racking our brains but can’t figure out what the Z word is.

Actually ….

On Sunday we didn’t do too much because it was cold outside and all three of us were recovering from being sick. Alex, however, talked to me non-stop all day long. Finally around 5 in the afternoon I asked her if her ever stopped talking. She paused and then said, ‘Actually, no.” Marc and I were laughing so hard.

Wearing Me Out

More funny comments from Alex:

I was talking to Alex and telling her to clean up, etc. and she said, “Mommy, you’re wearing out my brain.”

3 year checkup

Alex had her three year checkup a couple of weeks ago and is perfectly healthy. She is 3 feet tall and weighs 32 pounds. She had her first vision test (with pictures rather than letters) and did really well. The nurse said she has exceptional eyesight - 3 year olds usually score 20/50 and she scored 20/30 in both eyes. (It must be all of the carrots she eats :) It was so cute while she was taking the test - star, cup, moon, hand … And she was a little nervous so I had to crouch down next to her and she would look at me when she gave her answer rather than the nurse.

She did have a small problem with her blood pressure - it was high for someone her size. Apparently children don’t just get high blood pressure like adults - there is generally an underlying cause. So we went back last week to recheck it and it was fine - I’m so glad because I was a little worried about it.

Alex barely says a word when we go to the doctor so they always ask me about her language skills - I think they are exceptional. It’s funny that they have to ask me because the rest of the time she doesn’t stop talking.

Talk, talk, talk

On Sunday I wasn’t feeling well (I still have a bad cold) and was trying to take a nap. Alex was talking non-stop in a VERY loud voice. From the bedroom I yelled, “Please use quiet voices.” After that Marc took Alex out on the porch to blow bubbles. Marc said when they were outside he talked to Alex about that it was important to be quiet when people are trying to sleep. Alex then said, “But Daddy, some people like to talk.” Some more than others and some all the time.

Baby Annabelle

Alex got a doll for Christmas named Annabelle that she loves to play with. It comes with a bottle, blanket, and a diaper bag full of everything you need to take care of the baby. What is really funny is now I know what I sound like because that is the way that Alex talks to the baby doll. In an annoyed voice Alex will say, “Ok, ok, hold on, hold on.” It makes me feel so guilty. But then I will hear Alex say, “ok sweetie” in a really nice voice and then I feel a lot better :)

Alexandra - Version 2.5

Alex is 2.5 today!!! Just six months ago on her birthday she was barely talking and now she speaks in full sentences - just yesterday she said, “Look Daddy! I did it all by myself.” She is getting very excited about Christmas. We got our tree yesterday and decorated it last night. We also set up the children’s Nativity Set, which she loves!! We didn’t use it last year because she was too little and would have chewed on it but now she loves it and has been playing with it ever since we set it up. She is having so much fun arranging the characters and especially likes playing with the baby and the little animals.

And the tree seems to have caused a “Christmas miracle” this morning. Usually Alex gets up between 6am-7am (usually closer to 6) and comes into our room and wakes us up. This morning I woke up at 7:20am and Alex wasn’t in my room - I was laying there thinking that I should check on her when I heard her door open. I waited but she still didn’t come into our room. So then I thought I better get up and see what she is doing - she always comes and gets me up in the morning. I got up and she was in the living room looking at the tree and playing with the Nativity Set - she just loves it. It is now an hour later and she is still playing (well, she had some breakfast in between). If I had known I would have set up the Nativity Set months ago :)

Alex will say she is two when you ask her old she is - now I am trying to get her to say that she is 2.5. It’s amazing how much she has changed since she turned 2.

Too Noisy

Alex is still talking non-stop, repeating everything we say, and saying the funniest things. Yesterday I made the comment that we needed to vacuum because there were crumbs all over the floor. Alex crossed her arms and said, “I don’t like vacuum. Too noisy.” I started laughing and thought, “Yeah, I don’t like the vacuum much either.

Sentences

Alex went from hardly talking at all to speaking in full sentences. Every week her vocabulary increases, she speaks more clearly, and she talks non-stop. The other day Marc asked her where her ball was and she said, “Probably in my room.” We couldn’t believe that she used the word probably! She has also recently started using the word ‘and’ to join parts of sentences and her thoughts together. If you ask her what she did today she will say,” Went to the park and swings and give Max a big hug.” It’s so cute but she is such a chatterbox and never stops talking.
