Spain wins Euro 2008
Since I have been spending too much time watching football (or soccer to us Americans) and playing with video capture software, I haven’t written a post for today. I have always had a passing interest in football and would half pay attention to the World Cup but for some reason I have become a big fan since watching Euro 2008. And it’s so exciting – I decided to root for Spain at the beginning of the tournament basically because I’ve been to the country and I know a little bit of Spanish – and Spain ended up winning!!! I now plan on following Real Madrid (I think I now have a huge crush on Iker Casillas) and perhaps Arsenal in the Premiere League. And, of course, I will be getting ready for World Cup 2010.
I have been testing two social community sites for football fans; OleOle and Footbo. I haven’t spent enough time with them yet to do a review but I plan to soon.
So, since I am a recent football fan I will post some videos instead.
This one is of the champions ceremony after the match. Every time I watch it I am incredibly moved when Iker Casillas, the goalkeeper and team captain, lifts up the trophy.
The second one is a compilation of Iker Casillas’ best saves for Real Madrid.

Actually, neither Torres nor Orlando Bloom are young enough to be my children. Cesc Fabregas, however, is.

Good thinking… Martin O’Neill is the best manager in the English game and will get great results with an average squad.

Well, like I’ve said I’m a football newbie. I was leaning toward Arsenal because I like players like Fabregas, but I’ve also had a sort of intuitive feeling about Aston Villa. I also wanted to find a team who wasn’t in the top four. Last weekend I decided to watch as many games as possible and see if I “felt” anything about any of the teams. And I really liked Aston Villa. I like the name, the kits, they way they play and that they aren’t in the top four but aren’t at the bottom either. And I know the hat trick wasn’t a normal event.
I guess I’d rather be a villain than a gunner. :-)

Gareth Barry is so unsettled now that I just can’t see how he can possibly stay at Villa and remain comitted. He’s also dead set on going to Liverpool.
