This is because it’s the ‘Default’ category in WordPress. So, if you forget to add a category to your post, it’s going to be put in the Uncategorized category. If categories are displayed with your posts or in your list of categories, it looks kind of lame.
For a recent project I wanted to do something a little different with the list of categories in the sidebar. Instead of simply listing each category, I wanted to list an excerpt from the last post in that category.
I wasn’t quite sure how to do this although I did know that I needed an array of the categories I wanted to use. After a little trial and error and asking a friend a question, I came up with the following piece of code.

I did this recently with one of my scheduled posts and an excluded category.
Here’s what happened.
Fall is definitely here in Philly and it’s the time of year where I argue with my landlord about turning on the heat. I’m starting to think fingerless gloves aren’t so lame after all.
This week I have Colds, Freelancing, WordPress, Pumpkins, Bubblegum and More

This week I have some WordPress info, a lifestreaming theme, and some cheese.
If you are a friend of mine on Facebook, you will have read some good comedy about my recent attempts at dating. Let me know if you would like me to write an article about it ;-)
