WP-Cycle is a WordPress image slideshow plugin that uses jQuery. It can link to any post, page or a URL outside of the site. It can be set to any size and has a number of other useful settings. I’ve used this plugin on a number of sites and really like it for it’s ease of use. It does, however, have the limitation of single use and all images added in the settings have to be used.
When I was setting up up the NextGen Gallery plugin to manage my portfolio I decided I also wanted to display a slideshow of the images on certain pages. Since NextGen has a Slideshow feature built in (sort of but I’ll get to that) I assumed that this would be a piece of cake (and why is something that is easy called a piece of cake anyway?). But it wasn’t as simple as I though it would be. Fortunately, I found some awesome resources to help me out.

So, I created two slideshows; one for the twitter feeds of the green users and the second is from the rss feeds of the blogs of the green twitter users.
The slide is changed every 60 seconds but that settings can be adjusted. There are also controls for Previous, Next and Pause and the shortcut keys for the settings are shown when you hover over the link. Continue …
Birthday Party Ideas
My daughter’s 6th birthday is tomorrow and we are having a party for her on Saturday. Her party is going to include classmates, gifts, cake and will have a Dora theme. I wanted to do something a little different this year but wasn’t quite sure what to do. It couldn’t involve anything expensive as we are on a limited budget since her father and I split up at the beginning of the year. Since the Wii has a slot for an SD card and a photo channel, I decided to create a slideshow of the first six years of her life and have it play on the television in the background during her birthday party.
Since my daughter is six and I have taken numerous pictures of her, going through them to create the slide show took a considerable amount of work. Fortunately, they are organized in folders by year and date on my computer. Continue …
