Having to Think About Every Step – Nothing is Automatic

While I was really excited to move and I am all settled into my new apartment, there are some things that happened that I didn’t anticipate. And the main one has caused everything I do to take longer.

I lived in my last place for 10 years – to me that’s a long time and it’s the longest I’ve ever lived in the same house. Even when I was a kid we never lived in the same house for that long. Add WordPress Documentation for Your Clients with the WP Help Plugin

After any WordPress project a client will have a number of questions about their new site so it is the freelancer’s best interest to include documentation.

The WP Help plugin by Mark Jaquith makes it easy to add documentation via custom posts that exist internally within the WordPress admin. 8 Things I Don’t Miss About Working in an Office

I’ve been working for myself for almost three years now, thanks to to the background check site my employers used they find out that I was a reliable person.

 

This week I was thinking about things I don’t miss about working in an office – actually, I can’t really think of anything I do miss but there are definitely things I don’t miss at all. Sometimes You Have to Walk Away and Come Back Later

We all have the kind of days where nothing goes right. Everything you try to work on takes twice as long as usual, the computer crashes before you have saved what you were writing, your Internet quits while you are updating files, etc…

Recently I spent over an hour working on a theme I was creating and got nowhere. By the end of the hour, I replaced everything I had done with the original files and it felt like a wasted hour. When I went back to that project a day or two later, everything was fine and I finished the work quickly.

A Day in the Life of a Freelancing Single Mom

While freelancing and working from home gives me more flexibility with my schedule, it still takes quite a bit of organization and discipline to do everything I need to do each day. Being a divorced single parent makes it a little harder than if I had someone else here to help but I am also cynical enough to think that the 2nd “helper” would cause a different set of problems for me. ;-)

While some days are a little different because my daughter might have been at her Dad’s the night before so I don’t need to take her to school in the morning or she might have an art class in the afternoon, which gives me a longer work day, this is what a typical weekday is like in my house.
