9 Free WordPress Themes for Halloween
October is here and Halloween is almost upon us. Alex has been talking about it non-stop but doesn’t believe me that she was a ballerina last year because that’s what she wants to be this year.
As I’ve mentioned before I’m not really into holidays but I do like Halloween.
Here are 9 WordPress themes for Halloween for your site decorating enjoyment.

Hi Jim – I thought you would like these – didn’t find any zombies though ;-)
It’s a freaky looking bat.

I love Happy Halloween but cannot for the life of me figure out how to use it now that I’ve downloaded it. WP only seems to want to let me choose from THEIR themes, not the cool ones you’ve posted. What am I missing?

Hi Leslie,
Go to Appearance > Add New Themes and then click on the 2nd link that says Upload. It’s between Search and Featured. This is in WordPress 2.8+

I think the problem may be that I’m using wordpress.com to host my blog. I need to be able to host it myself in order to upload a new theme, don’t I? I don’t see anything that lets me upload…
October 5, 2009 at 10:30 am
Hi Leslie – You’re right. Unless you pay for extra features, you can only use the themes that WordPress.com provides.

Some of these are adorable. I’m sure my kids would be THRILLED if I temporarily changed my theme for Halloween, but my readers would probably think I have lost my mind. :)

Hey Kim,
These themes are amazing… I am tempting to try it, but I recently had my blog’s theme changed, and I think it won’t be suitable to immediately change the theme.
But thanks for these wonderful themes suggestions.

if someone wanted to dress up their theme for the holiday.

Hey Kim, as you can see from my comment link, Im promoting Halloween, I wish Id found these themes earlier because I had to make do with something else I had…I’ll know for next year though!

Hi Kim: Thanks for the fun themes . Might use one of these on one of my blogs. But I’m getting a “page not found” for the “Happy Halloween” theme?? Just thought I’d give you a heads up – maybe it’s a temporary thing.
Have fun with your trick or treating!

Two quick questions, if you don’t mind:
1. If I decide to use a holiday theme for a few days, does it seriously upset any customizations I (you) did for another theme? Or have problems with existing plugins?
2. Do you think sites like mine should not monkey with themes for holiday reasons? i.e, keep it professional?
Ok, there are 4 question marks in there, but 2 true questions.
ps…I’m still thinking about that awesome corn chowder you posted .

Hi Rick –
1. You have customizations that are directly on the templates so changing the theme temporarily would affect those features. The one that pops to mind is the footer.
2. I think it really depends on what your site is about – some of your readers would love it and I think others would get confused.
I’ve made the corn chowder twice now – Alex loves it!
October 9, 2009 at 8:57 am
I think that for a guy with my skills in WordPress themes, I may bypass some of the fun stuff… Thanks for the feedback as always!

Nice templates for halloween, but i would like them will real people pictures instead of cartoon graphics
October 11, 2009 at 8:40 pm
Hi Ravi – I guess photos of real people in costumes would be kind of cool. Most of my Halloween photos are of kids though rather than adults.
October 14, 2009 at 6:07 pm
A nice selection of themes Kim. Lucky for me my theme allows me to change the way it looks with great ease, and I’ve consequently change it to reflect Halloween. The hardest part, being an Aussie, is trying to come up with posts to suit the theme ;)

I love the colors on myHalloween – it reminds me of a cosy night in front of the fire while it’s cold outside! And the pumpkin looks quite cute, not at all scary :D I also love the illustration in the last theme, Halloween in Blue – clever use of the RSS logo on the front of the coffin.
November 2, 2009 at 2:21 pm
Hi Pete – I wonder if that is a clever use of RSS – until you pointed it out, I didn’t even notice it there ;-)
November 4, 2009 at 10:26 am
Ha ok yeah that’s a very good point! I guess it’s only clever if you aren’t interested in getting any new subscribers! Still, I imagine there’s a happy middle ground – perhaps having the RSS logo stood up at an angle like a gravestone, with grass around the base and spooky spider webs hanging off it.
