Eating and Drinking With WordPress Plugins
I’ve decided that this week would be all about food here at (Anti) Social Development. And what better way to kick off our celebration then starting with some WordPress plugin name silliness. Fortunately for us, there are a number of plugins that will allow us to share a small WordPress style dinner.
Fine dining? Not so sure. Funny dining? Maybe so.
A WordPress Plugin Dinner
When you sit down and being to sup you can start with something to drink. Perhaps beer, coffee or rootbeer. The specials tonight are fish and you have your choice of babel or big. When dinner is over make sure you wipe the breadcrumbs from you lap (or from your beard). And hopefully you won’t end the meal with indigestion.
Plugins Mentioned
- WP Sup – This plugin integrates WordPress with Friendfeed so that you new posts appear on Friendfeed almost instantly.
- Buy Me a Beer or Rootbeer or Coffee WordPress Plugin Widget – A plugin used to encourage readers to donate to your site.
- Bigfishgames Syndicate – This plugin looks for new releases from Big Fish Games, pulls the data, and creates a new blog post.
- Babel Fish WordPress Plugin – This will add a BabelFish translator to your site as a sidebar widget.
- Yoast Breadcrumbs – This adds breadcrumb navigation to your site. Breadcrumbs look like Home > Plugins > WordPress and are links to those sections.
- Indigestion With this plugin you can create a daily digest from a number of RSS feeds. For example, you could use it to create a post of your shared items in google reader or a daily post of your delicious bookmarks.

I’m currently busy with the ‘ham sandwich in my lunchbox’ plugin. It doesn’t have any worthwhile functionality but it tastes pretty good.
For some reason I felt the need to share that…

Thanks, Kim. This is an awesome post.
Hopefully after we try these food plugins you don’t get any “this isn’t good” text messages. (Sorry, inside joke)

How is WP Sup more delicious for breakfast than syncing your blog with FriendFeed?
You had to include a mention of feeding with food, right? Good thing I just ate breakfast.

But nothing is more delicious than syncing with friendfeed (even
though I’m not a big fan of it )

‘Plugin for thought’ eh?
I had seen the ‘Buy me a beer’ thingie… Though the concept was okay, I hated that ’suggestion underneath it’ like 7,75 per pitcher etc… That’s worse than begging

Hi Ajith – LOL
I would like the Buy Me a Book plugin. Personally, I’d rather just give
someone money than buy them a beer since I can’t stand the stuff.

Unique approach. No doubt I’ll be back. Food always reels me in.
Have you heard whether or not the babel fish translations are close to being accurate, Kim? Not going to use it, but sounds interesting with the world shrinking and easy access to blogs.

Hi Gennaro – I haven’t used the plugin but I do know that I’m not
very impressed with the standard babelfish translations. Raju recently
recommended Global Translate so that may be a better translation
plugin to look into.

WP Sup will be helpful. I’ve been more active on FriendFeed recently, and it drives me bonkers when, after a few hours, my new post hasn’t updated to their site.

It amazes me that there are so many plugins. I wonder how many are popular, and how many are there – but are not really used by anyone.

I’ve used the ‘Buy Me A Beer Plugin, and I’ve actually had a few people who kindly donated some money. The thing is with plugins is that they tend to slow your blog down a bit so I am trying to cut back. You could say I am on a plugin diet.
Say Kim, I hope you like memes because you’ve just been tagged
